Britannia Beach

This one-of-a-kind project began with Macdonald Group purchasing the entire town of Britannia Beach, (representing 10,000-acres), located on the highway to Whistler, within a 40 minute drive of downtown Vancouver. The town contained an abandoned copper mine (in its heyday, reportedly the largest in the British Empire), which had been leeching huge amounts of pollutants into Howe Sound for several decades. It was an environmental "mess" with no available solution. The Macdonald Group was the catalyst in the provincial government's decision to finally rectify the situation, by donating to the province 9,500 acres of its land, containing the old mine and all of its underground tunnels and infrastructure. The Macdonald Group developed the remaining 500 acres into single-family lots, many with breathtaking views of Howe Sound and the surrounding Coast Mountains. The project was pre-sold in less than a month, a result rarely achieved for a large single-family subdivision.
